The Glenville Volunteer Fire Company is conducting a fundraiser in October, when it plans to give the inaugural David N. Theis award to state Rep. Livvy Floren.

The department, which operates independently from the paid Fire Department, is raising money for a brush truck, a specialized piece of apparatus for fires in wooded areas. It would be the first brush truck in town.

The event, slated for 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 22, will honor Floren, who the company said contributed significantly to the community of Greenwich. The award is named after Selectman David Theis, who died in December.

“Our planning committee meeting to pick the person for the award was very, very short,” said Ron Brien, a member of the Glenville Volunteer Fire Company.

In addition to her political work, Floren is involved in philanthropic endeavors around town, including the Audubon Society and the Garden Education Center of Greenwich.

“On top of it all, Livvy is a very special person. She’s not just a public servant. She’s a warm, caring person from a personal standpoint. She’s probably the most loved person in the town,” said Brien.

The event will include a silent auction where attendees can bid on such items as original photos of Marilyn Monroe and a cruise on Long Island Sound.

The Glenville is one of the largest fire companies in Greenwich. Some of the volunteers in the company helped in New York City after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

“This is a chance to thank Livvy for all her service, a chance to remember Dave and an opportunity to help the Glenville Fire Deparment make the town safer,” Brien said.

Tickets cost $125 per person and sponsorships start at $500.
